Wedding- lakeside in Tallahassee

Jessica and Charlie said their vows lake side surrounded by family and friends. The theme of the wedding had a natural rustic feel. The bride carried an hand tie of white peonies that were wrapped with a embroidered scarf and ornament hand made by the bride.

The girls carried a bouquet like nothing I have ever done before. One of the items included in their bouquet was a plant called "chicks and biddies"that we got from Native Nurseries. This neat plant made for a very unique and beautiful bouquet.

The guys boutonnieres were made out of "chicks" as well.

The ceremony was held lake side on a dock. The aisles were lined with hooks of mason jars and hydrangeas. The dock was decorated with a mixture of greens, along with sprays of orchids and a few hydrangeas.

The reception continued the flower theme throughout the wedding.

The wind at the lake that day was super strong which leads me to this next picture. It comes with a special note- I did not entirely create this on my own. The story goes that I created a large arrangement in a tall fluted vase for this table that day only to be told that it had blown over and shattered. Not to worry, I grabbed another vase, added some pebbles to weigh it down and designed another gorgeous arrangement. I was then approached a short time later and informed that this time it had not broke, but the vase was now on its side. The caterers were loving this I am sure. So with the wind being against me that day, and not wanting to leave the buffet table bare- I used this container with some of the flowers that were still good from the rehearsal dinner and added a Snapdragon touch to it. So thank you goes out to the person who created part of this arrangement in a container heavy enough for the wind not to blow it away. Unfortunately I also did not get pictures of the other two arrangements that I made that day!

My newest adventure recently has been becoming a mom this past December. Here is a glimpse of my "Kami"-

Although I absolutely love spending time with this munchkin, I am also looking forward to designing again. March is going to be a busy start to another successful year.

Wedding Flowers on the beach at St George Island- Meghan and Gary

September at the beach could not be better for a wedding. I recently spent the weekend in St George Island, FL for a very special wedding- my little sisters. There is just something about spending time with loved ones and creating flowers for their special day.

The ceremony was set in the sand in the The Sunset Beach Community.

Meghan and Gary exchanged their vows under a bamboo arch of lilies, roses and hydrangeas and orchids.

The bride carried a mixture of white roses with a signature "C" satin ribbon and a family bible attached.
The bridesmaids carried varying sizes and shades of yellow roses.

The reception was held pool side and was decorated with flowers, shells and candles.

So I am sure that it has been noticed that my blog has been pretty quiet lately. Well life does that sometimes. My husband and I are expecting our first child together this December. Not knowing what to expect, as this is my first pregnancy, life has forced me stop designing for the fall. I will be back to blogging weddings actively in March, so until then I will just have to share the latest in baby pictures with you.

June Wedding in Tallahassee FL

This June was a very popular month for Bride's and needing wedding flowers. Some of my Bride's chose indoor locations while some chose to brave the heat of Tallahassee with outdoor ceremonies.

One of the other popular things this season is the use of hydrangeas in bouquets and centerpieces. Here are a few of the images I took that day. Looking forward to the professional images from Steve Corbett as no matter what I do I just can not always execute a great quality shot.

The Bride carried a mixture of hydrangeas, gerberas and lilies-

The result was some amazing color! Only trouble I had was find a place to take pictures of these creations.

Wedding with a summer twist

I have been neglecting my blog in a bad way but only due the my busy wedding schedule. Over the next week I will show you what I have been up to in the last month.

I only have two images to show you in the first blog, mainly because this wedding was so early and did not have my shooting eyes on quite by the time I delivered the flowers.

In all seriousness, I hope to have more to show you very soon from the professional photog, but here are a few that I snapped of the buffet table arrangements.

Dorothy B Oven Park- Emily and Josh's Wedding

This past Saturday Josh and Emily exchanged their wedding vows at Dorothy B. Oven Park in Tallahassee beneath a gazebo decorated in lilies, stock and daisies.

Let me first say that I am glad they were not paying me to be the photographer because after a couple of hours in the heat, the only thing special about these photos are the flowers in them.

Lets start this post off with the main event.

The bride carried a mixture of flowers. Each of her girls carried a smaller version of hers.

The Groom requested that his boutonniere be different from everyone else. This is not an unusual request at all. The rest of the wedding party wore dendrobium orchids for their corsages and boutonnieres.

The reception was held inside and out so we incorporated tall vases of cherry blossoms on the outside and smaller version with other flowers on the inside.

Wedding in Thomasville, GA

This past Saturday I traveled to the Myrtlewood Plantation in Thomasville Ga to design flowers for Rachael and Alan's wedding. I wanted to share a few images from that day that yours truly took, but will wait for the professional ones to give you the grand picture!

The Bride carried a mixture of lilies, roses, and freesia. All of her bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids carried smaller versions of her bouquet.

I had a really hard time getting good lighting for this arrangement so I moved it around the room until I got this shot. Hopefully the professional Photog can provide me an image that displays both of the arrangements in their final resting place with all the yummy food around them.

One of the neat details of this arrangement that is not so easy to see in this picture are the feathers that were incorporated into the design. There were three different types but I have no idea what type they are :) !!

One last detail I want to share with you is the Bride's throw away or "tossing bouquet". While not a huge part of the bride's day, I think this design could easily be used in a larger scale for a Bride or bridesmaid.

Bouquets with Calla Lilies

Calla lilies are one of my favorite flowers and recently I was doing some research on wedding bouquets with callas in them on TheKnot.com and came across some great ideas that I just had to share. While these are not my own creations, I am inspired by these images.

Wedding in Apalachicola Florida- Amanda and Jonathan

This Saturday I traveled to Apalachicola Florida for a wedding located at a cute little Baptist Church just over the bridge. Thank goodness all the rain went away so that the day could not have been more perfect.

I did not get to meet the photographer personally this time, but sure hope to have some professional images to share with you soon.

The colors of this wedding were cornflower blue, antique white and chocolate brown. Amanda carried this blue theme throughout the floral designs.

The brides bouquet consisted of blue and white hydrangeas, varies roses and freesia. The smell was magnificent!

The Groom wanted a little something different so I suggested blue thistle. The results were amazing.

To decorate the front of the church, white urns were filled with hydrangeas, lilies, snapdragons and blue delphinium.

Wedding at Wakulla Springs Lodge in Wakulla Springs Florida

Wakulla Springs was the setting for the first of many weddings I have coming up for the Spring. I love this location as there are numerous options for where a Bride and Groom can exchange their vows, but the fireplace in the main lobby of the lodge seems to be the most popular. The room that is just off the main lobby sets the stage for a wonderful reception area over looking the spring.

The bride chose various shades of pink for her main color. Here are a few images from that day taken by yours truly. If you want to see the professional ones visit terrismithphotoblog.com and take a peek at that sideshow for Kimberly and Rick. Oh how I can't wait to get my hands on those gems!

The mantle was decorated with carnations, roses and an assortment of flowers and greenery.

Kimberly wanted her flower girl to carry a bouquet identical to hers, yet smaller. They carried a mixture of roses and mini carnations, accented with greenery.

The Matron of Honor carried a mixture of pink roses and greenery as her bouquet.

The tables at the reception were decorated with lovely fishbowl arrangements of carnations, roses and gerberas.

The tossing or throwaway bouquet as it is sometimes referred to was simply a hand tie of gerbera daisies.

Wedding Favors

One of the things that I do not always get to be a part of but love hearing about is what the bride has chosen for her wedding day as a wedding favor. I decided to look into how this tradition originated and wikiopedia.org was a great source.

"The tradition of distributing wedding favors is a very old one. It is believed that the first wedding favor, common amongst European aristocrats, was known as a bonbonniere. A bonbonniere is a small trinket box made of crystal, porcelain, and/or precious stones. The contents of these precious boxes were generally sugar cubes or delicate confections, which symbolize wealth and royalty."

"As sugar became more affordable, bonbonnieres were replaced with almonds. For centuries, almonds were commonly distributed to wedding guests to signify well wishes on the bridegroom’s new life. In the thirteenth century, almonds coated with sugar, known as confetti, were introduced. Confetti soon transformed to sugared almonds, which later evolved into the wedding favor for modern day weddings. Traditionally, five Jordan almonds are presented in a confection box or wrapped in elegant fabric to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the coated candy exemplify the bitter sweetness of a marriage."

In my time, traditional wedding day favors to me represented a napkin printed with the bride and grooms name and the date of the ceremony, but this tradition has really expanded with more unique ideas then ever before.

One of my most recent brides shared with me a wedding favor trend that is very close to my heart. She is using "In Favor of a Cure" Pink Ribbon Plantable Wildflower Favors for her wedding.

Redd Letter Days- wedding supply store based out of Tallahassee

I recently stumbled across a wedding site that is based out of Tallahassee, FL. What a better way to support local business then ordering your wedding and party supplies from a local store!

This site has everything from cake toppers, wedding favors, personalized gifts, bridal accessories and much more. Even more- the site is not limited to weddings, but anniversaries, babies, bachelorette parties and other special occasions. I learned from the owner is donating 5% of all sales to the Second Harvest Food Bank During the month of February. Additionally, she rents Victorian vintage serving pieces, easels, photo frames, etc. for weddings and parties at a very reasonable price.

Ruskin FL for Jamie & Bryan's Wedding

Recently I traveled to the Tampa area to design flowers for a seaside ceremony in a town called Ruskin. The beach ceremony was held at a wonderful little resort called Little Harbor and the reception that followed was held in a banquet room over looking the harbor. The following photos were taken by Dena Dixon, a Tallahassee Photographer with an extraordinary amount of talent. Here are a few images from that day.

Jamie wanted the theme of her wedding to be LOVE with lost of pinks and purples. Her bouquet was one of the most fragrant that I have ever created due to the purple roses she chose. The roses, paired with the blush lilies and freesia gave off the sweetest smell.

The groom and father of the bride wore alstromeria lilies for their boutonniere's that followed the color scheme.

The corsages varied in flowers and design for the mother and other attendants.

The ceremony was held on the beach and displayed a bamboo arch with a mixture of hydrangeas, roses and lilies.

The indoor reception continued the flower theme with a cake covered in lilies and roses and the tables had fresh arrangements of flowers with the word LOVE in them.

I was super excited to see the email "Callas and Orchids" sitting in my inbox this morning. A couple months ago a dear friend of mine asked me to create a bouquet for her as she was having some "better late then never" bridal shots done of her family by another photog. She wanted something fun and different to go with her vintage pink dress and off I went looking for ideas.

The day of the photo shoot I don't know who was more excited over the finished product, Terri or myself, but I knew the photos she promised to take of the bouquet for me would be the icing on the cake.

As a last minute thought I made a boutonniere for her husband. Isn't this amazing!

Purple, Red and Yellow oh my...

Last March I met with a bride that was planning an October wedding in Tallahassee. I was so excited the day of our consultation when I realized Belinda had no intention of using pastels but more rich colors for her wedding bouquets and arrangements like purple, red and yellow (oh my)!

As a designer, I found myself looking for new and interesting things to use for my floral creations. A couple years ago I found a place that fits my need for different things, without having to comb the world over to find them.

Miss Mandy's is a local store that I use frequently for my wedding designs. They have a wide variety of things to rent or/buy and can help find that unique thing you are looking for if they don't already have it!

Well that happened with me when I met Kris. Her style was unique and different from anything that I had done. The results were beautiful and I am eager to share some of the pictures by Terri Smith.

Wishing Tree

Have you ever heard of a wishing tree? Me either, until a recent consultation with a bride. When I got back from my appointment, I did a little research. It turns out that a wishing tree is a new twist on a guest book for a wedding reception. Herecomestheguide.com displayed the following images with regard to this neat idea:

I welcome you and want to share an idea. I am in the middle of helping a dear friend and my sister plan their weddings for next year. This prompted me to log on to theknot.com. I use this site from time to time to get inspired.

Today while on the site I had a thought- I have designed all these great weddings and would love the opportunity to share my ideas with others like myself, searching for inspiration. So I started searching the site to find out just how. It did not take me very long to find the details on how to submit pictures to them and that I really needed to be the bride to do so.

So I started to email a photographer friend of mine to get her to blog about it and then I stopped... another thought

Why not finish my blog I keep talking about and write about it myself. Funny how things happen.

So here's to my first blog post and a link to a neat idea that pushed me to finish my blog~
